Writing Lesson
Adapted from Becky KresinObjective:
- To have the students demonstrate synthesis by composing their own hard-news story of the Chinese Cinderella including the 5 W's and H in the article.
Materials:
- Chinese Cinderella Story
- Disney Cinderella Story
- Newspapers
Procedure:
To begin, read the Chinese Cinderella to the class. After reading it, have the students tell the difference between this version and the American version. Why are they different? Show the children the front page of a newspaper and ask them what catches their eye. Talk about headlines of a paper with the class. Ask the students when writing a story what information needs to be included. Explain the 5 W's and H to the students (who, what, when, where, why, and how). Have them use the Chinese Cinderella to write a catchy story for a newspaper! Have them share their articles after they are finished. Make a large newspaper sheet and put all the articles on it for the class to see.Evaluation:
- I'll evaluate their new article to make sure they have included the 5 W's and H in their news article.
